I’m Chia-Chun Chan, a research assistant in this lab. I earned my M.S. in Entomology from NTU in 2025 and my B.S. from NCHU. As an undergraduate, I built life tables for Myzus persicae under graded heat stress and regularly participated in orchard surveys to assess aphid damage. My master’s research broadened to include plant physiology and ecology, focusing on how environmental factors—especially drought—shape plant–plant interactions via plant VOCs. Different stressors elicit both parallel and distinct volatile blends, but their potential functions as perceived by neighboring plants remain largely unknown. My primary systems are maize and soybean, but I also evolve sampling volatiles from other biological sources (e.g., spider webs, spiders, insect frass).
Outside of research, I’ve recently returned to weekly piano lessons. Completing a musical piece helps me maintain focus and provides a sense of accomplishment. Additionally, I work in Japanese–Chinese translation, which has become part of my weekend routine. For leisure, I enjoy video gaming—I am a big fan of Astro Bot, Overcooked, and Animal Crossing.
